Favorite Curly Products.

I'll admit it...I'm a product junkie. And a hoarder. Only when it comes to hair stuff. You can look under my bathroom cabinet right now and see dozens of conditioner bottles and so on from months ago. I'm working on clearing it all out. It's just every time I go for an 'empty' bottle a good amount always seems to still be hiding in there, somewhere. So anyways, I thought to myself really which ones do I use on a consistent basis, if I could cut it down to maybe my top  5? And that's when I figured I'd share on here :)

1. CLEANSING
I usually only cleanse once a week, maybe twice at the most. It took me a while to figure out what works best on my hair. And for quite some time now, the 'As I Am' coconut cowash is apparently my hair's favorite. It doesn't have all those harsh ingredients that most shampoos have, which I love.  Once I apply it in my hair, its amazingly so easy to comb out in the shower. (with the help of a wide  tooth comb of course).

2. CONDITION
After cleansing, I usually use the Renewing Argan Oil Conditioner (not pictured). I always leave a good amount of it in my hair, as a leave in. It really is nourishing and helps fight my stubborn hair's frizziness. But lately instead I've been using the 'Miss Jessie's Creme De La Creme' and I love it as well! The key is finding products that work best for your hair. But if yours has any similarities to mine, then I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Also, sometimes when I do decide to add some heat on my hair (which isn't often ) I enjoy using the 'Moroccan Smooth Perfection'.

3. LEAVE IN
Ok, so I just mentioned I always leave in a little bit of conditioner in my hair. Since my hair is extra thick, I need all the product I can get. I have to always be careful of course not to add in too much, which only results in my hair feeling 'heavy'. But with enough practice, you usually know how much to add in. My favorite for the last couple of months has been the Miss Jessie's Coily Custard and/or Multi Cultural Curls. It's bomb. A lot more expensive then the other hair products thats for sure. But depending on where you go, you'll find some for less. (The Walgreens near my house surprisingly sold them under $20).  An alternate and less expensive brand (still works amazing) is the Shea Butter Coconut and Hibiscus Curl/Style Milk.  (I've always gotten it for $6 at Walmart, unless the prices have slightly changed)

4.MISC
And that's pretty much it! I like keeping it simple most days and not adding too many things in my hair. Usually everyday I do have to wet my hair and comb it out daily since it is very crazy thick. BUT I always just add in some conditioner, and then throw in the after products for the final touch!
The products  in the top pic are others I enjoy, for example the Jamaican Castor Oil and 'As I am' gel and butter cream. Those will last me like a year or longer, lol. I basically use those for touch ups or if I feel my hair needs a little boost, or some extra moisturizer is needed. Plus Castor Oil is great to use on eyelashes, eyebrows and hair for more growth :) Also, I'm starting to 'diffuse' more and yeah do see a difference in my volume when I do.But honestly most days I let it air dry.

More Pics!

And just one more pic. FYI: Um excuse my face here (don't judge, hahaa), my husband likes to take snaps when I'm not ready at all, lol! But really love how my hair is growing and starting to become more healthy! :)

Curly hair talk.

I plan to write a lot more on this topic, and not sure why I haven't really talked much about it here. Maybe because I have my own frustrations with my hair and sometimes think to myself what's the point to even talk/share about it. And the fact that there seems to be so many steps, which can become boring to read about. But maybe talking about it more will somehow be helpful to some other curly babes out there. Sorry in advance I don't have enough curly pics at the moment. I have to go exploring thru my shoebox app, which all of 'em are stored there:) I plan to get some more recent and close  ups of my own hair posted on here as well. But until then, I'm going to share a little bit of my own curly hair routine. Covering the basics. Plus i'm always searching for new helpful tips, so please feel free to share!

Something I found to be a major help and difference was switching my shampoo. Now, I never use any shampoos that lather up. No harsh chemicals or alcohol based ingredients. Co-washing has drastically made life sooo much easier. For some time now (I believe coming up on a year) I've been using the Asiam co-washes. (wal-mart or target, around $10) Very nourishing/gentle on my curls and honestly I can co-wash as much as I need to. I love that especially during the summer with all the beach/pool days. Aside from that, I try to cleanse as minimum as possible. Normally 2-3 times a week is good. It's also good on those days when my hair is extra tangled. (Big wide tooth comb is a must!) And once every other week (sometimes only once a month)after cleansing, I add apple cider in my  hair and let that soak in for a good 5min.It really cleanses your hair from the roots and gives it a natural healthy shine. I've learned (the hard way) that when using the apple cider to simply rinse it out and then condition, condition, condition. If you plan on deep conditioning, don't do it on the same day as the apple cider rinse. It has always resulted in my hair being very dry and brittle. I know, strange right? Renewing morrocan argan oil conditioner has been a new favorite and works amazing on my thick curls. (Available at Walmart and Target for about $6 bucks!) And be sure to always leave in a little bit of conditioner. (I then use a cotton t-shirt to squeeze all the water out of my hair). And finally add some leave in conditioner while it's still damp, then let it down to air dry. (Definitely diffuse your curls w/low heat if it's cold out). I find the Shea Moisture coconut curl and style milk to be very helpful and always add that in my hair as the final step. I also spray leave in conditioner from time to time, to help hydrate my curls throughout the day.Of course depending on the weather, I rub in a tiny bit of gel as well ).

Whatever kind of hair you might have, always embrace it and know you are beautiful! Trust me there are plenty of days I just want to either get it straightened and keep it that way, or just get it all chopped off. I've done both before in the past and later regretted it. There's nothing wrong with getting your hair straightened from time to time by the way! Just try to minimize the amount of blowdrying/flat ironing, which of course too much results in dry, damaged hair, if not treated properly. Annnnd I know there was a lot of writing on here rather than just 123 steps. But promise to post very soon with less words and definitely more pictures/easy steps! I'm still working on getting my hair healthy to the way I want it ,but it's all a learning process for me as well and of course consistency is always key ! :)
