New Artists.

I love that there's always new music out there to discover. I always listen to (chill) music in the mornings from my tidal account, which btw I loveee that it'll play randomness at times. I came across this artist called 'Jones'. Initially her cover of 'How Deep is your love-Acoustic' came on, and then I was officially inspired. So inspired that I really want to do some quick piano covers on instagram  or something like that. I just need to break out of my shell, that's all. Plus I only know the basic chords on the piano. I've tried searching for some tutorials as well on youtube, but can hardly find what I'm looking for! I'm not sure really how popular her music is here since I've just started listening to her stuff. I'm thinking it's more common over in the UK.But it's allll good. Plus I always think the artists we rarely hear about, are the ones that move us the most  :)

Monday's be like....

Soo where has this month gone?!! I'm ready for February though, since it's always a fun month. Well, not exactly looking forward to turning 28. But rather, looking forward to visiting home/Atl really soon, plus celebrating my sisters 20th bday! But January, you've been fun as well :)Btw, while I sit and write all of this out, my arms and every thing else are in pain! (Maybe that's my excuse as to why I'm eating chocolate right now??)  Anyways! I went to a barre class with a friend yesterday afternoon annnd its was tough! It's been about a good year since I've even gone to one of these classes, and of course yesterday it seriously kicked my butt, haha.

10 things I've learned about Marriage

I don't know why I really don't talk about this topic. And I might of mentioned this before on here a while ago too...but maybe because I feel I'm still considered young and can't really relate any advice to other married people like myself? Or the fact that my blog isn't private and that I don't like to talk much about my really personaaal stuff on a public site...?  Yeah, think that has a lot to do with it. But this is a space where I'm suppose to talk freely, not worry about judgment and just be me. Soo I'm working on that for 2017, opening up more and just being real.  If someone were to ask right now, the top things I've learned in the last couple of years (well, almost 2 years) of being married...I wouldn't really know where to begin, hahaa. Honestly. It's not something I ponder about on the daily, that's all :)

Places I've never been/Travel Bucket List.

If I could travel and get paid for it, I'd make that my career. No doubt. I have so many places in mind, I hope my family and I can one day travel to. On my pinterest, there's even quite a few spots here in Florida that I want to check out. The good news is, you don't have to have a passport to experience new adventures. Wherever you are, there's always something new to discover. If it were up to me and I had an entire year or even 6 months to travel, I think these would be the places I'd go. (Hopefully i'll see some of these in 2017)  What places do you want to see?? @ theactivespirit, @chasing313, @teralynmitchell.

2017 Thoughts.

December Memories

Today seemed like a good day to share some stuff that was suppose to be up for the 'Write everyday in December Challenge.'

Some highlights:
Christmas was FUN. My mom, sisters and even my lil brother (Alex) came down!! My mom also brought her moody dog/shitzu, Elsa. She was completely nervous leaving her out in the house, since she believed Zara wanted to eat her. (C'mon mom, really?)

Nothing really went according to plan. We wanted to go to the beach on Christmas day. Once we arrived, it poured. But the beach was still pretty amazing! Elijah brought his soccer and football along,so we played for a bit before the rain really came down. There were even people out horse back riding! And the day after xmas, everyone wanted to go to Top Golf. The wait was over 6 hours!! We went to diff't bowling alleys/arcades, everything was completely jam packed. 'Till we eventually found one. And to think we almost gave up to go home and just watch more movies!

Speaking of packed...our home sure was. Considering we live in a 2 bed/2 bath condo, we made it work though (thank goodness for Elijah's bunk bed.) Plus we love when the house is like that anyways :) It was never quiet/calm with the dogs, the kids, etc. But that's us, that's our family. We all played plenty of games like family feud (that one was interesting bahaa),the jenga game, etc. Dylan's parents, grandmother and his younger brother were also over majority of the time, plus their dog Luna (mom also thought she wanted to eat Elsa.) At one point, the kids were playing football in the house. Kayla threw it so hard,it hit one of the candles that had a ton of fresh (red) candle wax in there. Which splattered right onto our fairly new sofa. Go figure. BUT None of us freaked out. (Well, my sister did and so she ran to the bathroom crying.) We just wanted to figure out how to get it all off asap. Long story short, there's still some stains..but it's all good. Can hardly even notice it now! Unfortunately it didn't end there.Since Kayla was upset for spilling the wax, about 10 minutes later we hear her screaming ' Ashleighhhh, come here now pleaseeee!' I guess she knew not to yell for mom? We will never know how it all really happened, lol. All we know is she had superglue on her hands which were stuck to her forehead!! (And some around her right eye.) The story was she wanted to just add some designs on her nails...well, next thing she knew the super glue had an exploding episode. And IF you know our Mom...she went off of course. Ashleigh was nervous about it not coming off,and I was trying not to lose it, lol.  Luckily, it wasn't that severe, no ambulance or 911  needed this time. What would we do without Google right??

Hmm...Only this kind of stuff happens in our family I think??

Overall though, we laughed hard everyday, and  had some kind of crazy adventure. Whether it was at home or some place else. One things for sure, its a Christmas we'll always cherish ! :)

Fridays/Food for thought.

I typically don't talk politics, or really ever write my thoughts out when it comes to all that nonsense. Politics are already messy as it is, plus you can never differentiate truth and lies nowadays. But a lot of it has been on my mind. In terms of our society, the protesting, the violence. All of it. A lot of other things are bothering me and heavy on my heart as well...which by the way have nothing to do with race and what not, but I won't get into all of that today.

Anyways last weekend Elijah had plans with his grandparents and Dylan had work. So I had some time to myself to relax and do absolutely nothing. It was actually really nice laying around all day in my pj's! So I caught up on one of my shows that I recently have gotten into it, Being Mary Jane. I really do overall enjoy watching it and was always curious on the series. Since Gabrielle Union's character (MJ) is a journalist, the show covers a variety of different life topics, and different outlooks which I like. However, after watching this one particular episode, I was still thinking about why they would put that in there. Not to spoil anything for anyone incase you are watching the series..and if so then don't read, lol!) But it was Season 3, maybe episode 8 I think. She starts dating this white guy, which she has never been with one before, ok no biggie. They finally go out together in public for some fun karaoke and it becomes clear to everyone that they are official: Mary Jane is dating a white man people. And maybe if the show was real life then it could possible be a big shocker. Considering the topics she's covered in the past has been about 'black' issues/having a voice for the community. Anyways, they walk off stage and head back to their table. MJ notices a black couple sitting closely, in their own little romantic world. You can tell she admired that. But then suddenly seems bothered/embarrassed being publicly out with her white boyfriend. She gets to work the next day and her boss is excited, saying 'hey how about you add in some discussion covering biracial relationships!?' Mj says she doesn't want to discuss her personal life and her first reaction is no. Once realizing she has no choice pretty much, unwillingly she agrees. Later she has to go to her team explaining there's been a change for the return of 'Talk Back' and explains what the topic will be instead. Overall they were disappointed and so on, you get the idea. So later that night while having her boyfriend over for dinner, their talking about their day and she ends up basically blurting out that she can't date him. She says she likes black men, and wants black love and blah blah blah. So he replies back with how he obviously can't give that to her. End of scene.

Maybe I'm overthinking and being too analytical . But I think her character really did want to be with him regardless of his color/race,etc. Maybe she called it quits because she just wasn't ready, for the world to know her personal business. But then again, she didn't want him that badly, since her mindset is 'there's other fish out in  the sea. Or  hey, there's always long time pal, aka 'cutty buddy'. I wish they could have changed it up a bit to where she did decide to stay with him and give it a chance, to see where it would go. All of this also reminded me of one of my favorite films 'Something New.' Great movie btw. I'm not extremely upset or anything like that (maybe slightly offended) but it just really got me thinking. For me, yes I'm married to a white guy. But then you want to get technical, he's half Puerto rican/Irish. Our last name is Gomez. We have a beautiful son who is mixed with Puerto rican, mexican, black, white and lord knows what else! I can honestly say I have never even thought of color, nor do I see any color difference with anyone. Unless it's brought to my attention from the outside world, then of course. But even with that, it's not something I constantly think about. I forget I'm in a biracial marriage.  Growing up I never saw stupid color, nor did I ever pay attention to it. Then I got a little older and people would make their comments abt my mother being Hispanic. They would even refer to her as a white woman at times. And then comments towards my father, being a 'dark skinned black man'. In my eyes, it's ignorant thinking. And I really hate using that word but when it comes to this topic, it's just how I feel. And some people may not ever understand that.

For me, in the past I have talked/dated different guys of  various backgrounds. But to some people that's looked down upon for not 'sticking to your kind.' Sorry, but we're all people and that's that. Maybe if majority of the world would have truly grown up multiracial or had friends of all races and backgrounds, then we wouldn't have as many racial issues today. Which it honestly seems as if history is just repeating itself in terms of those issues. I understand we can't help where we come from and so on, and not everyone is going to be all mixed up, I get it. But we are in control of our thoughts and actions right now. I can't speak for everyone since some people base their actions on what everyone else is doing and thinking, rather than focusing on what's truly right. But then again, some people are just sooo plain ignorant (there it goes again) that they don't even know the difference between what's right and wrong. Sorry but not sorry.

And I am truly saddened by everything going on with the world. Including all of the recent police news and Black Lives Matter, and how it all has gone down. There's no excuse for that. And I'm actually quite offended the officer was cleared in the Freddie Gray death. I will also add,I personally haven't been able to watch any videos of any recent killings or anything. I also understand why people are upset and wanting to protest, I completely 100+ get it, trust. But then again, the way I'm looking at it...you don't see people out in the streets protesting when a black man kills/shoots another black dude in the neighborhood or vice versa, white man wrongfully killing another white man. It's only protested when another kind commits the crime. I know I've rambled quite a bit, but my whole point is (yep your already thinking it) get rid of Black Lives Matter to ALL lives matter. I cannot deal with some people's mindsets when it comes to the race thing. All this division and lets just keep it real...prejudice and yes the racism, is completely out of control and needs to end. Will it truly ever end??  A lot of people can say oh well I'm not prejudice, I have a white/black friend (s). But then their mindset or 'preference' may be that they enjoy surrounding themselves with a majority of black or white friends. Which please note, Im not saying based on who your friends are that it defines you as prejudice or not. Or just like in the tv show Being Mary Jane, some people may really feel like they can only date whites/blacks/mexicans/Chinese/Indians/fill in the freakin' blank.

(Almost finished,promise.)
Last night I was looking at people's snapchats, and follow this guy that a friend had recommended.Trent Shelton is his name. I had never heard of him until she had mentioned him to me. He speaks very uplifting, powerful stuff daily, which I love. I don't always see every snap since his usually will flood your whole story, lol. But last night I had clicked on one of his and ended up watching every bit of it. He called it 'Colorblind.' What if every human being on this earth was colorblind, then how would the world be? What a powerful thing to think about, right?. Would it make a difference you think if God made us all that way?? Not only did he give a deep message, he also sent out a challenge. For every person to go up to someone you normally never would approach and just talk to them and show love. And I 150% agree with him, it all starts with each and every one of us. Maybe some of us could use a reality self check, and some real self reflection. How can each of us go out in the world and make it more positive? So I want to leave it at this and pass on the challenge to whomever may be reading...go out and do something good. Talk to a stranger. Say hello or give a warm smile to someone who maybe doesn't even speak fluent English. Heck, go play Pokémon go with someone if you like. The point is, you never know what kind of impact you could have on somebody. Because every one in fact, does matter.

Emma Gannon's challenge- 60 things that make me happier.

Soo, I love reading Emma Gannon's Girllostinthecity blog. Absolutely LOVE. I've been reading her stuff occasionally, for maybe a few months or so. And no, I don't know her personally or anything like that, but I always feel inspired after browsing thru her page.(Came across it I believe thru Pinterest.) Well, I recently read this one in particular and she ended it with a fun challenge: writing your own 60 things that make you happier. Oh while doing so, feel free to be gushy and cheesy or whatever. Only rule is: be happy while doing it. So here I go, no holding back.

1.Watching Grey's from the very beginning, now currently on Season 10. And the hubz loves it just as much now.

2. Constantly laughing out loud from 'New Girl'. You have to have a weird sense of humor I think for most of this show, but most ppl would agree it's hilarioussss. Watch it from season 1 if you haven't already.

3. Road trips. Whether its an hour and a half drive to visit New Smyrna or a random drive to St.Augustine, I love it.

4. Pillsbury chocolate cookies. You know the ones that you find in the fridge section, yeah those ones. Ahh-mazinggg. (Add that with some Netflix and wine and its a perfect night in my book.)

5. Speaking of wine, my favorite since last summer is  Sangue Di Giuda. So good. (P.s: its not found everywhere, I usually have to make a drive down to St.Augustine or Nsb to find it).

6. Writing out my weekly 'to do's list'. Idk I guess I feel more organized by doing that. And staying organized definitely makes me feel happy.

7. Ocean views. Who doesn't love those?

8. Sleeping in on Saturdays. (usually for me means anything past 7:30, but hey...I'm ok with that.)

9. Lazy Saturday mornings+ morning bed cuddles+ homemade brunch with my boys.

10. Texting/calling/catching up w/ friends/family I haven't heard from in a while.

11. Sending one of your good long time friends whom you haven't seen in a while b/c their now in the peace corp (all the way in Malawi!) a package + a hand written letter.

12. Quiet mornings sipping tea and reading either a good book or magazine. (Or just checking out everyone's SnapChats, tbh)

13. Funny morning radio talk shows on the way to work. (one of my fave's: SteveHarvey)

14. Listening to Tidal. (My favorite road music right now: Wale's new album- looove that he always adds Seinfield into his music, XAmbassadors (Gorgeous is a goood song), a few other random genres, and yesss yall...I love Beyoncé's new album as well!)

15. Conversations/texts with my mom. And gma.And everyone else.

16. Having a good relationship/friendship with my momma in law and even father in law too, lol. (a few years ago trust me, you would have thought we practically almost hated each other. Thankfully, that's all turned around).

17. Visits back home. (Texas and Georgia)

18.Posting Throwback pics.

19.Posting whatever kind of goofiness I feel like on Snapchat.

20. When Elijah takes over my Snap:)

21. Random date nights in the middle of the week. Our favorite: Chilli's.

22. Discovering new brunch places or holes in the walls, like really good bbq joints. Especially b/c I'm rarely ever in the mood for bbq.

23. Donating goods/clothes.

24. Exploring Jacksonville. Always finding something new.

25. Taking selfies with my moms adorable puppy Elsa, whom ive been babysitting for the last 3 weeks :)

26. Eating ice cream sandwiches. The wal mart brand is my favorite :)

27. Listening to Tori Kelly!

28.  Eating spicy raman noodles at work. (the ones in the cup)

29. Eating in general. And I swear since I've turned 27, some of my taste buds have changed! I'm always in the mood for freakin chocolate . (or sometimes Swedish Fish candy)

30. Playing my keyboard( +taking social media breaks)

31. Looking thru old song books/diaries of mine.

32. Reading old letters Dylan and I would write each other as teenagers.

35. Rainy days/nights at home.

36. Stand up comedy from youtube.

37. Record shops.

New Ideas.

source
Happy Monday !

To be quite honest, I'm behind on sleep, homesick and really missing my hubs. He's on a guys trip for the next few days by the way. (And I'm actually kinda jealous right now) Hahaa.I'm sure Saturday will be here soon enough. But aside from that, I've had a little bit of down time for myself. (I'm sure i'll appreciate it later ). Anyways I'm in the process of a few different things. For starters, my Dad called me a couple weeks ago to help him with his tshirt designing biz that he recently started in his free time. It's still in the beginning stages, but still its pretty exciting.Secondly, my mom and I have had some recent conversations lately and decided to collab on a fun little project.  Will share soon. Also, I already have a list in mind of friends i'll be reaching out to for their input, hopefully they will want to collab as well:)

Sometimes I feel a bit all over the place considering there's all of these different things I want to do. But this I have come to realization about myself:

I love learning about beauty/skin care/staying healthy/exercise. (Explains why I was considering learning how to be a yoga instructor, lol).
I love people, travel, diverse foods, and music of course, duh.

-Anyways literally for over a year or so  I've been seriously thinking about learning how to become a lash technician w/Extreme Lashes. Since I tried out the lashes last year, I was inspired by the lash tech and her drive to having a successful business (that she genuinely enjoyed). If I did decide to go for it, I could either work in a salon or just have my own business at home and/or go to my clients instead. I've done tons of research and 4 training days is all I need to be fully certified and doing my own thing. It's so natural looking and very popular these days. Plus it's a great career. We shall see :)

-Starting a new youtube channel for music/writing stuff. Dylan got me a really nice mic for Xmas and it's time I should put it to use. My only thing is, nowadays people think because you are starting a youtube channel that your aiming for fame. When in reality,  I'm really not.  Music is my first love and creating my own covers I think would be pretty cool. Plus I feel like 27 is a little too old to start aiming for it. My husband disagrees with me on that one, lol.  (Considering one of his favorite artists/ J.Cole got discovered in his late 20's ).

-Some days, I want to write a fiction novel. Other days, a somewhat fiction novel based around me and D's young love as teenagers into adulthood, lol. Other days, heck a freakin book on my outlooks and experiences on life sounds pretty good too.

-Helping kids, helping people. I won't go into too much detail b/c I could go on and on talking about how incredible it is. But I miss working and volunteering at the L.a Dream Center. I loved that Elijah, D and I would go together all of the time. My mom and sisters were even part of the one in Atlanta while we lived in California. Recently I found out there is a Jacksonville Dream Center not far from our house. What are the chances?? Crazy. Also, my good friend Mahlet has been away going on a year now working in the Peace Corp ,in Malawi. And the things they get to do on a daily basis...it's amazing. Simply Inspiring.

-I know I was destined to be a mom of course:) But whatever it is i'm destined to do as a career, hopefully it will be something in the creative/arts field, something that adds some good to this world.

<3

*(I'm too lazy to proofread this post right now, so excuse any of my errors peeps)

March 9, 2016

Lately.

Ugh It's been a few rough weeks or so. And I hate it when I'm not on here to just write and say whatever I want/need to say. I'll try to stop slacking so much:) And since it's pouring down rain over here today, it finally gave me some down time to write out a few thoughts.

Not trying to jump right into it, BUT to sum up these past few long weeks...my grandfather is no longer suffering. As much as we wanted him to still be here with us and get better, he just couldn't fight anymore. And that's ok. And we made sure to let him know that, that it would be ok. And to let go whenever he was ready, that we would all be right there with him. I think deep down that's what he was waiting on. To just hear it from my grandmother and all of us. Unfortunetly when I found out he had maybe only a few hours left of holding on, I wasn't able to catch a flight in time. So I decided to FaceTime him and my grandmother that night instead, and just let him know how much I love him. As hard as it was to do that, I'm just thankful and have peace knowing he heard those three words. I thanked him for everything, for being such an amazing grandfather and great grandfather as well. It sucks letting go, especially when your so close with someone. It's especially difficult when you've never lost anyone so close. But being here in Texas around the fam, definitely has made it somewhat easier/comforting for all of us. I'll definitely have to post some pics of him and some of our memories on here soon.

Annnd I won't lie, yesss i'm starting to feel a bit homesick. Definitely missing my hubby and the warm weather of course. But I'm honestly happy my mom, Elijah and I are still out here and able to help my grandmother around the house and whatever else she may need. I know it's always the hardest once everyone is gone and back to their regular routine/lives. But definitely having company/family around is always a plus...

No matter what we'll carry him with us everywhere we go <3.

Stop being so insecure.

I've had some of this just sitting in my draft box for a couple of months or so. And I won't make this a chapter book today, but would like to briefly share some thoughts. Thoughts on something (deep down) we're all familiar with.
And yep looking back, I've always had some kind of insecurity.Whether it was blemishes, imperfections, or my butt/chest wasn't big enough, like everyone else's in the world. I either had too many freckles, too skinny here, not enough there, there has always been something to complain about it seems. Coming up on almost 27 years old, I'm overall content in who I am.  I've learned comparison is a confidence killer. It's just a waste of energy. (Social media doesn't make it any easier for this generation and our younger people, but thats probably for another post). I recently did a fun, simple little photoshoot last month, literally just.for.fun. And seeing some of the final pics, I honestly felt slightly disappointed. In my head I was like oh but I don't like this, and why do I have to have such skinny arms...and it was all just starting to sound a bit ridiculous.  I even thought to myself at one point in my life I use to actually do this for a living, and was great at it! And now...not so much. Then I started questioning myself why did I even go thru with it this time and so on. Nothing but ugly thoughts. Terrible right? I think in some way or another we're all guilty for doing that. We talk ourselves down and end up overthinking. When in reality it's only ourselves being so critical. And if there ARE negative critics out there...WHO CARES!? Let them be with their negativity. BUH-BYE.

I'm writing all of that to simply say: let's all learn/help each other to embrace our lives, to be thankful for the little things and love ourselves. Regardless of age, skin tones, career paths, our home towns or whatever...we're all people who need to uplift one another. We were all created differently for a darn good reason. Not trying to sound like a motivator speaker but seriously, let's stop analyzing and comparing every little thing and everyone. So go out in this world with your chin high, know you were beautifully created and LOVE being YOU!!

That's it for now :)

xoxo

Little Reminder.

I've been excited lately. Estatic ! Everything went smooth on Tuesday's closing. We're officially owners...and I don't think it's really hit us that it's well, real!! I've been to a few stores already like Lowe's/Home Depot, HomeGoods and it can definitely start to feel overwhelming. We want to at least get a couple of little projects done like paint the walls a new color, stain the kitchen cabinets, etc. The condo is already in good shape, which we're really thankful for. Now i'm just anxious to actually get in there and get situated. There's a long list in my mind of what needs to get checked off, and so on. It's hard sometimes trying to juggle so many little things at once, which can definitely start to add up. But I need to remind myself that everything doesn't need to be done right now. It'll all come together little by little. I'm secretly a perfectionist with some things and it drives me crazy. So I think that's one of my new resolutions..to just be. And to learn to embrace+deal with the imperfections.

Today.

Today...was a good day. Elijah woke up in a happy mood, he wasn't picky about what outfit he wanted to wear (or which socks he preferred to wear). After dropping him off at school, I got some grocery shopping done which was nice. A lot of elderly people and I were conversating and exchanging tips about healthy foods and so on, which was actually pretty cool. They were asking me what I add ginger in...I told them for juices/cleanses,plus a couple of other good ones. Got a few other errands done plus laughed my butt off from listening to random/awkward convos on the radio. And just relaxed the rest of the day. Got to talk to some close friends and even spoke to my Dad for a bit. Oh and can't forget to mention how beautiful the sunset sky looked. (Beautiful purple/pink skies!) Later we got dinner ready, Elijah wanted his favorite spaghetti and meatballs plus some lemon cake for dessert:)  And for the last few hours I've been watching Grey's (finishing season 4) and even started watching Being Mary Jane. I don't know why I started another new netflix series, but I'm actually enjoying season 1 so far. Other than that...

Currently waiting for this glossier mask to dry so I can wash it off and get to bed.( The mega greens one is aweeeesome).

Confession: I've been wearing my gray comfy sweat pants quite a bit this week. Their.just.so.comfty.

Elijah's first ever pajama day is tomorrow, he's soo excited. Plus their having pancakes for breakfast.

Hoping to go to yoga or maybe try  out a barre class this weekend.

My oldest brother James travels so much, as of right now he's in Malaysia...is it wrong to feel a tad jealous??
:)

Just realized I'm reading about 4 books or so and haven't finished one...don't judge. I'll finish them all soon...eventually.

Tomorrow I get to do something I haven't done in such a long time, excited/nervous about it!

Tuesday is our official closing date for our new place!!!

Tuesday.Tuesday. Tuesdaaaay.

Flashback Friday.

So I was working on another post and about to add a few pics to finish it up. And the section to upload pictures, I clicked where it says 'phone pics'. And I'm so happy I did. I found dozens of pics from when we had first moved out to Cali and looking thru all of it...I sure do miss it. Sometimes its good to look back. We've certainly come a long way. There were soooo many pictures saved from my old phone, that I can't even edit them. I mean, really I could..but it would be too much. And there's even more on my email which I'll also have to post soon. So anyways, just wanted to share it all unedited. There's a lot of randoms on here, but I love random! From our long drive in my packed Honda..to pics of Elijah sleeping in his spiderman costume. (day in and day out). Also in case your wondering..Ej flew out there with his grandparents to avoid the long drive:) Keep in mind these are all from back when I wasn't really into the iPhones. Team galaxy I think, hahaa. Hope ya enjoy my flashbacks!
