I plan to write
a lot more on this topic, and not sure why I haven't really talked much about it here. Maybe because I have my own frustrations with my hair and sometimes think to myself what's the point to even talk/share about it. And the fact that there seems to be so many steps, which can become boring to read about. But maybe talking about it more will somehow be helpful to some other curly babes out there. Sorry in advance I don't have enough curly pics at the moment. I have to go exploring thru my shoebox app, which all of 'em are stored there:) I plan to get some more recent and close ups of my own hair posted on here as well. But until then, I'm going to share a little bit of my own curly hair routine. Covering the basics. Plus i'm always searching for new helpful tips, so please feel free to share!
Something I found to be a major help and difference was switching my shampoo. Now, I never use any shampoos that lather up. No harsh chemicals or alcohol based ingredients. Co-washing has drastically made life sooo much easier. For some time now (I believe coming up on a year) I've been using the Asiam co-washes. (wal-mart or target, around $10) Very nourishing/gentle on my curls and honestly I can co-wash as much as I need to. I love that especially during the summer with all the beach/pool days. Aside from that, I try to cleanse as minimum as possible. Normally 2-3 times a week is good. It's also good on those days when my hair is extra tangled. (Big wide tooth comb is a must!) And once every other week (sometimes only once a month)after cleansing, I add apple cider in my hair and let that soak in for a good 5min.It really cleanses your hair from the roots and gives it a natural healthy shine. I've learned (the hard way) that when using the apple cider to simply rinse it out and then condition, condition, condition. If you plan on deep conditioning, don't do it on the same day as the apple cider rinse. It has always resulted in my hair being very dry and brittle. I know, strange right? Renewing morrocan argan oil conditioner has been a new favorite and works amazing on my thick curls. (Available at Walmart and Target for about $6 bucks!) And be sure to
always leave in a little bit of conditioner. (I then use a cotton t-shirt to squeeze all the water out of my hair). And finally add some leave in conditioner while it's still damp, then let it down to air dry. (Definitely diffuse your curls w/low heat if it's cold out). I find the Shea Moisture coconut curl and style milk to be very helpful and always add that in my hair as the final step. I also spray leave in conditioner from time to time, to help hydrate my curls throughout the day.Of course depending on the weather, I rub in a tiny bit of gel as well ).
Whatever kind of hair you might have, always embrace it and know you are beautiful! Trust me there are plenty of days I just want to either get it straightened and keep it that way, or just get it all chopped off. I've done both before in the past and later regretted it. There's nothing wrong with getting your hair straightened from time to time by the way! Just try to minimize the amount of blowdrying/flat ironing, which of course too much results in dry, damaged hair, if not treated properly. Annnnd I know there was a lot of writing on here rather than just 123 steps. But promise to post very soon with less words and definitely more pictures/easy steps! I'm still working on getting my hair healthy to the way I want it ,but it's all a learning process for me as well and of course consistency is always key ! :)
Yay for healthy hair! You've always had gorgeous curls, even without any products. Right now i'm using Kinky Curly Knot Today as my leave in conditioner, with a little bit of oil on top (just a tiny bit - while it's sopping wet). I might add a little gel for definition, depending on my mood, i've been so lazy with my hair lately. It's always pull up/back in a bun. Might let it flow free this summer though.

I've been jealous of your curls most of the time. I've just started using some of the products you're talking about and hopefully I can get my hair healthy. I mostly put my hair in a ponytail/bun too. I never let it hang down. Thanks for the tips though. I look forward to more posts about curly hair :)
